hi guys!

sooo....things here are classy. first off, i´m finally in the campo (field), and my first area is a city called Campos. its in the state of rio de janeiro which means that its about 4.5 hours south of vitoria. last tuesday, i woke up in the CTM at 5:25 and drove to campineas were our plane took off around 9:30. landed in vitória around 11:30. met Presidente Pickett there, and headed to his house where we ate and he explained what would happen. he told us where we would be serving and who our companion would be. then, around 5, we headed to the bus station for transfers. there were about 75 missionaries there and that was sweet. i met my companion (Elder Carvalho). he´s brazilian, about 5 inches shorter than me, and the only english he knows is comes from american pop culture. sooo....as of today, i think he´s said 3 actual english sentences. yeah. its awesome. then, we hopped on the bus, and got to our area later that night at about 11. our house is awesome. its in some dingy little apartment, is infested with misquotes (so my repellent is coming in handy), has 2 stalgmites hanging from the bathroom ceiling that are about 4 in long, annnnd....i managed to have a hot shower when i can work the water-zapper right (it shocks the water as it comes out). but the best part is that my comp from the ctm (elder ekstrom) is staying in the same apartment with me. its basically a party. me, ekstrom, elder carvalho, and then ekstrom´s comp, elder maier.

the campo is awesome. the next day, we woke up, studied, and then at 10:30 jumped out the door and went to our area. i walk a bunch now. my comp says that its smaller than his last area by a lot, but my feet are still sore (although my wart is totally fine now--don´t worry). we just walk around all day, talking with people and teaching lessons, and then walk some more. on friday, i used the step-counter thing that hyrum sent me in the mail: 14007 steps! but that day we didnt even walk that much. we taught six lessons that day so we were sitting quite a bit. the next day, we weren´t as lucky and we only taught one. i shoulda used the counter because i think that it was at least 25000. even my comp was weary.

Brasil is just classy. i love the culture and the people and am super excited to serve and bring people the Gospel. its been a little bit of a culture shock with some of the things people do and stuff (like yesterday, the bishops wife was breast-feeding while she sat on the stand. in full view! what!?) but being here is exciting and new.

i think today were going to play soccer. im excited. i think my comp is really good, and another brasilian in our distrit (elder nascimento) is sweet. he played on a legit D1 professional team before the mission. like the same team as corinthains and the flamingos. yeah. were playing with him. its gonna be sweet.

well gotta go. have fun with whatever you´re doing--getting ready for school (haha). the language is coming along great, now that i speak it 24/7, and the Gospel is true. i´m so excited to be here. love ya.
